Our Principles

How a custodial archive behaves.

4
Operating doctrines that shape every product decision
01

Data Sanctity Over Growth

A smaller, verified dataset is always preferred over a large, unverified one. Every record must trace to a living, accountable member.

02

Privacy by Default

Members only. Invite-gated. Mobile numbers and emails are never visible to other members. No lineage data is exposed to unauthenticated visitors.

03

Shastric Authority

Manusmṛti, Bahī records, and Purohit testimony are the reference sources. Contested data is flagged for admin review, not silently overwritten.

04

Celebration, Not Comparison

Every Gotra and every lineage is honoured equally on its own terms. No ranking, no hierarchy among Gotras — each thread is sacred.

Trust, privacy, and how the archive behaves
Data sanctity is preferred over growth. Every record must trace back to a living, accountable member who can be reached and corrected. Open registration would dilute that chain of custody irreparably.
Only verified members of your extended family — never the general public, never search engines. Mobile numbers and email addresses are never visible to other members, even within your own branch. Community Admins see structural data only, not contact details.
Most Aggarwal families belong to one of eighteen Gotras founded by Maharaja Agrasen. A Community Admin can help match you against existing branches using your surname, native village, and Kuladevta / Kuladevi. If no match exists, your Tīrtha Purohit's Bahī is the next reference.
Contested entries are flagged, never silently overwritten. Disputes go to a Community Admin, who consults the Bahī record and Purohit testimony before resolving. The audit trail is preserved.
Only with the explicit consent of the Tīrtha Purohit who maintains them. When stored, scans are linked to family records as documentary provenance — they are never the source of truth, only an attestation.
No. Gotra Guru is a community trust, not a SaaS subscription. We accept dāna from verified members who wish to support the work, but membership is never paywalled.
